Chopped tomatoes are made from the round tomato varieties that are more consistent and less rich in seeds in comparison to the oblong variety used to make the whole peeled tomatoes.
It is since 1978 that chopped tomato has been created, and its diffusion is growing and growing.
Tomatoes are harvested mechanically and a first manually choice is made on the field, while a second optical selection is made in the factory where green and yellow tomatoes are removed. At this point tomatoes are heated with a vapour jet, then peeled and finally controlled along a conveyor belt with the aim of discharge rotten tomatoes, seeds and pieces of skins from the good ones.
Tomatoes are then chopped in pieces of 14 mm. large and then sieved along a vibrating carpet that separate the right pieces of tomatoes from the one too small and from seeds. Chopped tomatoes are canned and a highly and thick juice is added. Finally cans have been hermetically closed are sterilised.
In this way Elvea obtains a high quality product that guarantee the right taste and colour, without loosing nutritive and allowing a long preservation.
